It's about time!

June means a new entry here. I post at least weekly at my blog. We are in the midst of Annual Conference; I'll get back to you on that.

Our Emergent Cohort had our first gathering last night, with about 20 people. It was a great start to what I hope will be a great blessing to each of us involved, anyone else who would like to be a part, and to the church at large.

Am I supposed to upload an entry more than every month or so? I would, but I only have this site because some of my youth suggested I should. (not that I do everything my youth suggest I should do). I more frequently post at everydaytheology.

I tried to be "pastoral," really I did

Here I was, minding my own business at Brookshire Brothers, getting some groceries for me and some snackage for tonight's youth gathering, when it happened. I was confronted by a member of my church who has attended at least three times in the 2+ years I have been here.

Of course he started, like they all do, with promises of trying to make it to church again. But he didn't stop there. He went on to explain how he has been wronged by pastors in the past so he just can't quite get that all behind him. He wants to come talk to me, to get things settled, because, of course, I am not one of the ones who has wronged him. (why and I tempted to add a "yet" to the end of that sentence?)

Instead of just listening, I told him, "I know this sounds easy, but you really just have to get up Sunday morning, get dressed, and come to worship."

I didn't begin to suggest the freedom I have found in:
having been wronged by grocery stores, I manage to continue to buy groceries,
having been wronged by auto-repair shops, I manage to keep getting my car fixed,
having been wronged by department stores, I still occassionally manage to buy and wear clothes.

Get my drift?

I'm getting all into podcasts... there is some GREAT stuff out there! My current fave is Erwin McManus at Mosaic. I just had a friend sign me up for Asbury Seminary's Chapel podcasts here. One of the best sources for insightful, inspiring messages, though not a podcast, is Rob Bell's at Mars Hill.

If you've found one I don't know about but that I would like, let me know!

I launched this intending to keep it up, yet I haven't posted here in over a month. Posting regularly on my blog, everydaytheology, and the blog I share with my brother, Richard, banditsnomore, but not here. So, here I am!

I'm getting really excited because I've actually got some kids from FUMC McGregor signed on for this summer's mission trips! woo HOOOOO.

Okay, I just launched THIS site because some of my youth told me that "sheyduck" was too boring to be a xanga site. I have another blog where I usually post stuff, but I'll try to keep you updated here, too.

I'm heading out tomorrow to speak at the Midwinter Retreat for the Northwest Texas Conference. It will be held at Ceta Canyon, outside Happy, Texas.
